Description

Buckwheat Seed - Buckwheat is a versatile crop that produces an abundance of flowers and seed in just 70-80 days. The seeds hold onto the stalk well after ripening, making it appealing to wildlife. Buckwheat is also a favorite among honey bees and produces an abundance of flowers quickly, making it an ideal crop for beekeepers. It grows well in most any type of soil, including poor, fertile, peat, sand, clay, or loam. While it's not very shade tolerant, it can germinate and grow at temperatures as low as 45 degrees F, with optimal growth occurring at or above 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

Buckwheat has a low water requirement and does not do well in wet soils. It's a great addition to spring and summer food plots for quail, doves, turkey, ducks, and deer, and also serves as a great cover crop for gardens. Its rapid growth makes it an excellent choice for smothering weeds during the warm season. Buckwheat flowers are attractive to bees and beneficial predatory insects and flower bugs.

Mancan Variety Buckwheat is most commonly grown in the Southeastern United States. It's known for its vigorous growth habit, as well as larger seeds, stems, and leaves. The seeds are large, dark-colored, with triangular-shaped sides.
